Have you ever tried YOUR BEST to lose weight and nothing happened?
Are you getting tired of the sacrifice without the payoff?
I know how you feel. This stuff is tough and not for the faint hearted BUT I can give you a few insights to help you discover why your weight loss plan is not working so that you can escape that frustration TODAY.
Reason #1: You aren’t working hard enough in the gym.
Have you ever seen an episode of Biggest Loser? Do you see how HARD they work in the gym? Your training sessions need to be challenging to produce results (even though we are not going for a 10 pound a week loss). Specifically to melt the fat and keep the curves you need to lift challenging weights and do conditioning (some call this cardio) that makes a mid-workout conversation with your friend an impossibility. Now don’t get me wrong, you don’t need to be killing yourself, getting dizzy and nauseous, or setting world records for the most weight lifted but you should be breathless, experience muscle burn, and turn into a sweaty mess.
Reason #2: Your weight loss plan is really a maintenance plan.
I am all for taking baby steps and mastering one habit at a time because ultimately the slower you change your habits, the more likely it is that they will become natural to you (bye bye rebound weight gain). However if you are looking to see consistent changes in your body every 1-2 weeks, there is a baseline set of habits that will produce those changes and giving up soda or swapping wheat for white will not do it.
I personally know all too well the pain of “not overdoing it” with my eating but still not losing weight. If your eating style is has not helped you lose weight, it is a maintenance plan for you even if it is a weight loss plan for someone else.
Reason #3: You are focusing on quantity and not quality of food.
Even if you are sticking to a specific calorie count for weight loss, you will ultimately need the right types of food to lose weight and keep it off. Your body needs protein and veggies mixed with just the right amounts of starch and fats to attain the fierce figure you want. Yes calories matter but not most of all. When you focus on getting enough protein and vegetables with each meal, you will EFFORTLESSLY eat less, feel more satisfied and drop the weight.
Reason #4: You are too hardcore and it is backfiring.
Sticking to 1000 calories a day while doing daily cardio, lifting weights, and doing that nightly routine of sit ups is all good until… YOUR HORMONES REBEL. Seriously I know because I have done it so many times. You feel all accomplished that you are at or under your calorie goal and have gotten in your workouts but then… the voices start calling you from the pantry and before you know it you have inhaled all of the crackers and starchy carbs in the pantry. You have NO CLUE how many calories you consumed in that little episode because you didn’t count, weigh, or measure because SHOOT THAT WASN’T EVEN SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. How did just one of your kid’s goldfish crackers turn into a feeding frenzy? Hormones my dear!
Your body likes to STAY THE SAME and it has a whole gang of hormones who work to make that happen. When you decide you want to change (lose weight), your approach has got to honor those hormones or else they will rebel- making you eat all sorts of crunchy and gooey goodness. And here’s a secret… THE HORMONES ALWAYS WIN! Play by their rules and ditch the hardcore approach. You can STILL get results without the starvation or excessive exercise.
Reason #5: You are STRESSED out even though you don’t *feel* stressed.
Stress and sleep have no calories but boy do they INFLUENCE how your body responds to the calories it gets. The challenge is you can be physically stressed without feeling mentally or emotionally stressed. If you are juggling tons of projects, scheduled tightly, and on the go non-stop from dawn to dusk, your body registers that as stress.
When you are stressed, weight loss is difficult because you have more cravings and hunger to battle, retain water and hold on to weight. Aim to do something relaxing each day whether that is a bubble bath, a chat with a friend, or a quick walk outside. Managing your stress will assist your weight loss thus leaving you one less thing to stress about.
