If you have been on a weight loss journey for any longer than a month, you have probably figured out that it is unrealistic to think that you will cook every single meal that you eat. So if you are going to create SUSTAINABLE weight loss for yourself, you have to crack the code to figure friendly eating anywhere and everywhere.
About 10 years ago I COULD. NOT. DO. THIS.
I literally would carry Tupperware of food with me and eat in the car if necessary to stay on plan. Any time I got caught unprepared without my food, I would eat way too much of the wrong stuff.
I had literally convinced myself that dining out meant pigging out and messing up and it didn’t have to be that way.
Can you relate?
Fast forward to now and I don’t carry a single meal with me, miss out on social engagements to stay on track, nor live up to my role as the *weird one* who is eating out of Tupperware in the kitchen at functions just to lose weight and keep it off.
Here’s exactly what I eat when I dine out to keep my taste buds and my waistline happy.
I order the salad with fajita veggies, chicken, extra pico, salsa, and a tiny bit of guacamole (be sure to ask or you will get a mound) and ½ of the salad dressing. Delicious, filling, and waistline friendly.
Bunless Turkey Burger & Fries
Whether I am at a burger joint or sit down restaurant, I know that I can count on ordering a bunless turkey burger with extra lettuce, tomato, and onions served with fries. In full disclosure, I don’t eat all of the fries but knowing that they aren’t “off limits” makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
#3: Crab Legs & Broccoli
I am an East Coast girl at heart so that means I looooove seafood. While the fried seafood platters SOUND good, they don’t treat me well at all. So I get my seafood fix with steamed crab legs (and sometimes shrimp too) and a double side of veggies. The seasoning that they use on seafood definitely has a little butter in there but the butter and spices amp up the flavor and makes it easy to say “no thanks” to the other fried fare being offered.
There you have it, exactly what I eat when I am not eating at home. Give those dishes a try and be sure to let me know how you liked them.
