3 No Fail Ways to Eat Sandwiches Daily and Still Lose Weight

Despite what you may have heard, sandwiches and weight loss can coexist. You don’t have to eat salads and stir fry dishes for lunch just to lose weight. However, your go to sandwich may need a little tweak to make it figure friendly.

The problem with eating sandwiches as is lies in the fact that there are usually way too many servings of carbohydrates and sometimes not enough protein. Your typical sandwich from your favorite deli can have as many as four servings of carbs. That could easily be an entire day’s worth. If you are getting plenty of carbs in your other meals, adding that lunchtime sandwich can singlehandedly keep you from hitting your weight loss goal.

The Lettuce Sandwich

This is probably the most notable figure friendly sandwich option. Put all of the things that you would normally put between two pieces of bread. Place them between large lettuce leaves instead.

The Open- Faced Sandwich

This is the best option for you if you need a little bit of doughy goodness to even feel like you had a sandwich. Simply forgo the top piece of bread and you are all set. To keep things from getting messy, place the lettuce leaf on top of all of the other ingredients.

The Figure Friendly Bread Sandwich

This is the best option for you if you want your sandwich to look and feel exactly like the one you are used to having. However, you need to bring this one from home to make sure that you get the right type of bread.

Figure friendly bread has enough fiber and protein to offset the impact of the starchy carbs on your body. It is like literally cancelling out the carbs. In general, look for bread that has what Dr. Jade Teta calls a lower “hormonal carb number”. Less than 15 is ideal. But, the lower the better. You calculate the hormonal carb number by subtracting the grams of fiber and protein from the total grams of carbs.

Love this! I hate eating a mouthful of bread, so I love doing lettuce wraps or open faces sandwiches!

  3. So smart. I usually do open faced or lettuce wraps for my burgers (I am not a huge sandwich fan). Great ideas!

  4. yup sandwiches from deli have too many carbs but i am seeing more places are offering lettuce-wich or whole wheat options!

The lettuce-wich is really popular now.

There are so many healthier bread options now and we should not be “afraid” of carbs.

Exactly. Even regular bread can be fine if you know how to work it in with everything else you are eating for the day. Well, maybe not daily though if you are losing at the time.

I do the open face sandwich thing for my burgers too if I really have to have some dough in my sammies. Great tips for anyone trying to cut down on carbs

Yes. I love that. And, if I want the fries, I just skip the bun altogether.
